The Listen to Children Mentoring Program offers children an opportunity to express themselves, improve communication skills, and acquire problem-solving skills through the development of a relationship with a caring adult as a mentor.

Population Served
Elementary and middle school students (ages 5 to 14) on schools throughout Palm Beach County.  Contact program to locate schools in need.

Mentor Responsibilities
Traditional mentors must be at least 18 years old.  (Youth-to-youth mentoring is also available for middle- and high school-age teens). Mentors should be a positive role model and are to develop a one-on-one friendship with the children through support, guidance, and listening.

Training
Mental Health Association provides a one-day orientation/training and activities to prepare you for the relationship before you begin.  Ongoing trainings and mentor support groups are also available.  Mentors meet with their protégés at school during school or after-care hours.

Time Commitment
Meet with child at school for 30 to 45 minutes once a week for 16 weeks or more.  Mentors are asked to see four children on average.
