Program Offered
Project 18 Mentoring provides one-to-one mentoring to teens who are dependents of the State. Mentors offer support and guidance as youth transition from foster care to independent living upon reaching 18.
Population Served
Teens ages 16 ½ to 18 who are in the foster care system.
Mentor Responsibilities
Mentors will be matched to a single youth for two year periods. Mentors will help ensure that the youth become optimistic about life after foster care, that youth will take a proactive approach to meeting the needs of independent living, that they learn to connect their actions to consequences, that they will develop positive relationships and an increased self worth and will increase interest in their education.
Time Commitment
Mentor and mentees make a commitment to meet in person and maintain telephone contact, weekly for two years.
